The Deal | Small Groups Together

As Spring Garden goes through Deuteronomy and the "Walking Together" series, we will be meeting as one big group on Thursday nights at Scott and Kate's. After that, we'll figure things out for the rest of the year. So, whenever you are able for the next five weeks, come on out! Scott and Kate live here.

Info Meeting | September 23

The ball is rolling! Yes, we are trying to get this blog a little more updated...

I (Scott) am officially handing the torch over to Jeremy Unrau, who will be doing an internship at Spring Garden, specifically taking on Vocation. I'm very excited about this! No, not because it means I'm no longer in charge, but just having someone specifically devoted to Vocation will be great for the community at large.

So, we will be having our first informational meeting on Sunday, September 23 - no this upcoming Sunday, but NEXT Sunday just to figure things out for the fall. Simply meet Jeremy at the front corner of the sanctuary after 10 am worship gathering and we'll go from there.

Vocation Still Exists!!

This website has been largely unused as most of Vocation has been integrated with TILT - tilttoronto.ca. However, that may change as of this fall!!

What is Vocation going to look like this year?

We're not exactly sure!! But we believe God is leading us in a different direction than our previous structure (bi-weekly whole group meetings essentially). Vocation will continue to be the same community, but it will just look different, becoming an interconnected network of small groups:
  • TILT will be the backbone large community for Vocation. Most of us already attend TILT, and I encourage everyone to check it out. If it doesn't suit you, or you prefer Spring Garden in the morning, or you go to another church, that is totally fine. You will still be connected just the same.
  • Small groups [3-7 people] will be the core of Vocation. These groups will go further in-depth into what we are experiencing at TILT. Don't go to TILT? We will post the message, handouts, resources, pictures and additional discussion questions. The key is living life together as part of a group of spiritual friends. One person will co-ordinate the group, but anyone can lead any given week.
  • Vocation as a group will have consistent and regular missional activities in which we venture into the community to serve and befriend our neighbours. We're hoping to have a regular monthly commitment structured, as well as sporadic events throughout the year. Whenever we gather for these missional activities, there will be plenty of opportunity for social activities (meals, etc.).

I'm already in a small group. Sweet! We would encourage you to check in with a Vocation small group as well, since we will be diving deeper into what is happening at TILT and sharing in serving our community together.
Can I just do the missional stuff? Of course.
Is this really a community still? We believe this structure suits the reality of our lifestyle as students and people beginning careers. We are busy, and spread around the city. The small groups will be made to fit your schedule (ideally!) and reduce the burden on Sundays of having a group meeting and also church. Instead, we will commune within TILT (and the mornings too for some of us!) and within small groups, all connected by regular missional service.

Vocation Resumes!

DA VINCI CODE on Saturday Evening

Vocation is going to see The Da Vinci Code this Saturday night, and then when we meet on Sunday will have a discussion surrounding the movie/book...no worries if you don't get to see the movie or haven't read the book though! So, we are going to see the movie at Silvercity at Yonge and Eglinton at 8:00 pm. Some of us will be meeting at the church at 6:30 to be there by 7 pm. Otherwise just meet us there at 7 pm. If you want a ticket in advance, email Andrea at andreatemp@gmail.com by Saturday morning. If finances are an issue, email me at scottgmoore@mac.com and funds from Vocation will take care of it.

TILT on Sunday: The Stations of Holy Week

Come check out TILT (or come per usual if you already come regularly!). This week is a special week in anticipation of Easter where we journey through events from the last week of Jesus' life, his death and his resurrection (I guess you could just read that from the picture...). Anyhow, it should be a great evening of connecting with Christ in our community. 6:30 pm at Spring Garden (www.springgardenchurch.ca).

Why yesterday was cancelled...

Sorry about having to cancel Vocation yesterday. This is a picture of my brother trying to get our car out of the road in the morning...quite unsuccessfully...
So, we will be meeting this week instead - Sunday, February 26 at 1:00 PM at Scott's House.

A NIGHT OF SKATING

Get your skates sharpened and ready to go!
On Friday, February 24th we are going to go skating at Nathan Phillips Square. We'll meet at the church around 7:00 and then head downtown for some skating and some dessert/appies at Mr. GreenJean's afterwards! Post a comment if you are interested here...

Want to learn about something?

Are there are Scriptures that you've heard a lot but never really fully understood? Or things you've read and just don't get? Verses people quote all the time but feel that perhaps we aren't really getting what the Scripture is really trying to say? Let me know! Email me scottgmoore@mac.com or just post a comment here! I would love to discuss them at Vocation.

Something New - Meeting February 19th!!

We'll be back to a normal meeting this Sunday. Let's meet at ONE pm so there is a little more time to hang out, instead of people rushing out to TILT, etc. We'll meet at Scott's house - 20 Woodthrush Court (M2K 2B1). Email scottgmoore@mac.com if you need directions.

For the next little while we're going to be looking at what some of us might consider 'tired, old' passages from Scripture in a new light. Things we think we are overfamiliar with, but in fact, are quite unfamiliar with! We'll be starting with the Beatitudes and then moving on to the Lord's Prayer. Any ideas are welcome as always.
